There are no Virginia state laws governing venomous snakes. The exception is the canebrake rattlesnake which is listed as a state endangered species. However, some County and City governments have passed laws banning the possession of venomous reptiles.
All crocodilians require a permit from the Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries. In short, one needs a valid scientific reason or business relating to the display of crocodilians (zoo) to obtain a permit.
