Rack Thermostats

neonate May 13, 2006 12:37 AM

I plan on building a rack for my BPs. I want to heat 20 tubs with 11" flexwatt. Helix seems to be the unit most advertised, but i've heard of problems with these. I like the idea of the double ranco from Boaphile, but i want night drop control. do rancos have night drop? what thermostat would you use?

I would recommend the Spyder Robotics Herpstat. It is very reliable, has more features than the Helix, and you can get the optional night drop cable. They are also coming out with a new product shortly that will have the night drop built into the device instead of a separate cable plugged into an appliance timer. Here is a link to their web site:

There is also a thread about the new products coming out, if you e-mail me a I can give you the link to that. I don't think they will let me post it here.

Hope this helps,

t-stats, along with Rancos and Johnsons. They all work fine for racks. We had one Helix go bad, but it was used when we purchased it and I'm not sure how long it had been in service. The Helix and Johnsons can be set up for night drop, but the Ranco can not.
