About discussions on this forum

FR May 13, 2006 09:33 AM

The real purpose of a forum is to discuss methods of keeping. It says so above in the TOS.

To discuss does not mean to agree on everything or anything. To discuss is to bring to lite, if I may(UV lite non needed) If the discussion brings out many or several ways to accomplish something, that is of great benefit. As now there are choices. Which one is better is sort of meaningless, if you the consumer has not achieved any success, you want something that works, not how well it works

Because conditions constantly change, you often have to change from one method that works to another method that works. That is the reality.

There are several constants in life. All things that work, will indeed stop working, its only a matter of time.

What is so very hard to understand is, because a person uses one method, does not mean there is only one method. The reality is, there are thousands of methods for any task.

The real problem on forums is everyone has the same voice. It does not matter if their method works or not. So you the reader has to make a choice between methods that may or may not work.

So when people say this or that, your task as the reader is to make sure, that person actually has something to support what he says. More reality, most don't.

For instance the recent discussion on UV bulbs. People come and flatly state, its needed. And of course I and others state its not. All that means is, you have choice. I ask, isn't two options better then one?

Or lite cycle, some use lites on 25/7 others 12/12 yet others 14/10, the truth is, they all work. Again more ways that work are better then ways that don't work.

Varied diet, or not, both work. hibernation or not, both work.

Finally, to work must have results. You should ask for results, not theoried and thoughts and guesses. Of course if theories and guesses is you bag, then go for it. Cheers

Thank you FR, I am completely agree, the is no one way answer, no definitive solution, same goes with substrate, soaking etc..... there are many different equations to find the same answer. To all the newbies I apologize for confusing you if I did, same goes for many other posts, varanid keeping is a learning expierence that to the day we die will never be complete.
