New Baby Beardie

kyle1 May 13, 2006 09:52 AM

Yesterday I bought a 2-3 month old beardie from Pet Care here in Delaware. he has very bright orange and red on him and is very cute. rigth now he is still geting used to his new 30 gal tank and being held but other wise he is doing great eating and drinking great.

I put his tank next to my 8 month old beardie and for the first 20-30 mins all they did was wave their arms at each other untill I put something between their tanks so they cant see each other.

Is there a way that I can slowly interduce them to each other so they can at least tolerate each other so the bigger one wont eat the smaller one or should I just keep them away from each other for good?

Also my new baby is named Leland.

keep them away from each other, as in not house together, until they have about the same size. the older one may not eat the younger one but he sure will pick on him/her, hord food to himself, and may nip or bite at the younger one. and when they are about the same size only house them together if they are 2 females. even if they are male and female dont keep them housed together at all times, they will breed too much and it will harm the female in the end. so keep them apart, and keep something in between the cages like you have done, i do the same thing with my males

I wasnt planning on putting them in the same cage.
I had another question for people on these fourms, Is crushed walnut shells ok to use for young beardies? when I got him from the store his cage had the walnut shells in it and I bought a bag just to try to keep something familiar to him from his old cage. Is this a good idea? I know there is a risk of impaction but is it a very high risk that I should take out the shells and just have a some tile or something?
thank you.
I will post a picture sometime soon of my beardies.
