foxykitty911 May 13, 2006 11:31 AM

i have a long tailed grass lizard. ive had it for about two months now, but the last couple of days it hasn't been his usual self. hes been pretty lethargic, sitting around alot and if i open his cage he wont move unless i start to lift out the water dish to change it. he hasn't really eaten at all in that last few days and he has some white stuff on his face. it almost looks like its dry powder but it cant be cleaned off. help me please!!!

Is he possibly beginning to shed? Many lizards get a bit out of whack, sleep a couple days or don't eat right before a shed. This may be the white your seeing (that you say wont come off)

Hard to say without seeing him or knowing more, but May be the shedding, sometimes they get a whitish crustiness around their nostril which evenually in a few days does come off and it is only excess salt they are expelling from their body.

Let us know how is doing now and temps, lighting, if he is eating>>>> so forth, hope he perks up !

If it's sick, you might not have much time to respond, before whatever is going on gets really entrenched. IMO if (s)he doesn't come around in a few more days, your lizard needs to see a vet. I've had small lizards go bad really fast. My big ones' illnesses progress more slowly, giving me time to arrange vet visits around my own schedule. But I don't do that with small lizards, I get them to the vet fast.
