Hey JP..............................

TomChambers May 13, 2006 02:16 PM

I just wanted to say thanks for your very detailed write up on the no sub. method.

I'm older and typically stuck in my ways, but you really made me want to try it out.

my first clutch using no sub. hatched yesterday and today, and I really like this method.

I have two more clutches due, and I will probly use it for them too.

Thanks again

Great! I'm glad things worked out for you so well. To me its far superior to the "old" method, in many subtle ways. Like I've said many times, I wouldn't advocate the method the way I do if I didn't believe in it. I'm a worrier by nature, and I'm so comfortable wiht my method that I pretty much throw the eggs in, and more or less forget about them (kind of reminds me of the Ron Popeil comercial....."set it and forget it". Glad I could be of help. Now in exchange, I think its only fair you send me a couple of babies......LOL.

BY the way, I'm STILL waiting for my first clutch of '06 to BE LAID! Boy have I learned my lesson baout starting late...

I agree totally.

With substrate, often there are minor tweeks needed along the way, but this takes all the fun out of incubation lol.

my females won't let me start late, I have a handfull that stop eating late sept. like clockwork. It makes me get my butt in gear.

good luck with your season

Louis,

yes it was only one clutch to try out the method, but all 7 of 7 hatched day 53-54.

I used substrate method on the first 6 clutches earlier this season 100% hatch rate as well.

and have 2 more clutches due, I think I'll use no sub again for them.

It really worked out well.

Tom,

I have been using that method this season also and it is very nice. Congrats and thanks again JP for the non substrate method information.

My turn to chime in

After reading everything JP posted about the subject last season...i had to try it! Why?,because it seemed alot easier to try for my first incubation attempts than hand judging vermiculite moisture levels.
All eleven of my first two clutches ever hatched out just fine last year(without a fan even!..lucky?,perhaps.)

More than that...Before i had finally got the boxes set up.Three of the eggs in the first clutch had become waterlogged from my "temporary igloo-bator eggbox"(You can see the water marks on the eggs in the pic),AND two of the others were dehydrated.
(The second clutch of three were fortunate enough to go straight into a no-sub box.)

So this method has proven to me to be absolutely idiot proof!

Much thanks to you JP!
