Dwarf Burm Question

DevonCartier May 13, 2006 06:46 PM

Hi everyone I was wondering if anyone knew a good source for accurate information on Dwarf burms in the wild, I tried doing a quick Internet search and came up dry. I assumed these little guys were a specific local but where is it, and has any information been collected about them in their natural habitat. ?

Thanks
Devon

I told youthis already, but not many have this info.

They come from an island between indo and malay. They are burrowers by nature. They seem to eat some type of fowl as a main part of their diet. The babies have a unique adaption that no other python has. They play dead for up to 2 weeks after hatching. They will go completely limp and stop breathing. Its very odd and was scary to when the first dwarf ever produced did that. Thought we scared the life outa him!!!

I think that Normal burms will go to full species with the dwarf being a subspecies, like similar with retics.

They max out at 7' on females and 6' onmales. Most females only get to 6'. The males can breed at 4' and females at 5.5'

They come in two natural color phases, light and dark. They are very mean as wild caught adults, meaner than most other wild caught snakes. The c.b. babies tame down very nice. Feeding heavy in captivity, those c.b. in dec 2003 are about 4' on average and nearly 3 years old! It doest matter how much u feed them, unlike dwarf retics, they just dont grow!

They ill interbreed with normal size burmese pythons, both ways. The 50% dwarves that have been produced have already gotten bigger than dwarves, but thats expected, I doubt they will get as big as nmost normals! They can bebred back down to dwarf size again.

When I can think of more I will post it.

hope this helps
Beau
