A great Friday afternoon in So Cal...

I never get to pick the times I get out to hunt and Friday I didn't get out until 1:15pm, and I only had two hours. It almost seemed worthless, but I went anyway. I found a young Southern Pacific near a spot I suspected was a den - Awesome start...Then a gopher snake, followed by a baby ring neck (maybe 6 in long), followed by a gopher snake that bit my hiking buddy and left a bloody full ellipse shaped bite on her hand. There is no doubt those jaws get to 180 degrees - Again Awesome (that was her first bite).

Then we saw a 4 foot racer that got into some bushes before I could catch it. As I was standing there getting pissed off at myself, I noticed it was gliding right through the thick bushes about a foot off the ground. I have NEVER seen a snake anywhere except the ground...I still can't believe how cool it was to watch that thing move, but it gets better!

It came back out into the open and I dove for it. I'm talking a full on "beat the throw to home plate" dive! I got bit about 6 times, but I would expect nothing less.

I saw two more racers - not even close to catching them, and another ringneck on the way back to the car. WHAT A TREAT! I'm still fired up!

here are some pics...
