Skin attached

captotterboy May 14, 2006 11:19 AM

I looked just a minute ago and i noticed a small piece of skin on the side of charlie's neck that looks like it was left over from his last shed. I have heard you have to watch for this, so i grabbed some tweesers and got the piece of skin off. Is there anything i should look for at this point around that area?

In most reptiles, if it was still "attached" there is a possibility that the the skin underneath may have been torn creating an opening for bacteria. I would watch the area for a few days to make sure this isn't the case. I keep Nolvasan on hand for skin disinfection during situations such as this. You might ask the others if a little hydrogen peroxide would hurt. Diane

Hey,
I examined him this morning and apparently it wasnt a piece of attacked skin, it was the begining of a new shedding. Sooooo, i have a question; should charlie be on a shedding schedual or is he just going to shed when he sheds? This would be twice this month.

Thanks,
Jeff

btw, just in case, is it possible this is not shedding and is actually a burn? what do the warning signs of burns look like? He had peeling white skin like a person has getting out of the shower.
