Russian tortoise question?

don123 May 19, 2003 07:10 PM

After doing alot of research I have decided a Russian tortoise would be best for me to raise and care for in my area. I have searched the classified ads and see alot of adult Russians for sale but I would like to get a hatchling and raise into adulthood. Why are there no babies for sale? Does anyone know who might have babies for sale?
Thanks, Don

The baby ones are more expensive and everyone wants them. They also usualy get them out of the wild so they usualy are adults. Inless they are CB. Pluss there arn't that many breaders.

I have heard that they are hard to get to breed in captivity. There are a few places that have cb russians for sale but i cant rember where i seen them. Just keep looking.

Actually they are fairly easy to breed in captivity. Its just that most people only either get just one, the same sex, or a pair but they are from the wild and arent mature yet. I have 2.2 right now but the two new ones (in quarentine) are way to young right now to breed. The other two are old enough but the female wont let him do anything.
