sometimes first litters are so small....

craig k. May 14, 2006 05:22 PM

This is NOT one of those times. My motley male bred a friends normal, I got to watch the entire birthing process up close and personal, she had her tail up right in the front of her boaphile. The babies are alreaddy bigger then my het albinos that were born last month. Here are the numbers
25 normals(some really red ones)
15 healthy motleys
1 premie motley, still kicking, but huge external yolk sac
1 premie normal, passed on
4 slugs.
Not bad for a first time mom. This is the third litter in the last 15 days, so it has been a ton of fun around here lately. Here is half the litter

It is wonderful to have so many healthy, live babies, even if the odds weren't met. I was not so lucky with the litter I just had.

....the size of the first time Mom who was able to produce 46 eggs. I bet you're having fun comparing the patterns of those 15 Motleys.

I wish I would have weighed her before she dropped, but I have weighed alot of snakes, and I guarantee she was well over 50lbs, and roughly 9 foot. When I saw the size of the first baby I was bummed because it was huge, and I figured there would not be many of them.

What's up Mr. Derks?? When are we gonna get to see some of the awesome stuff your producing???? Hope you're having a great year, and hope to see you soon. Funny you talk about sleep, I have not gotten 4 hrs. any night in the last week. Between waiting on this girl, all the new babies, and trying to get a big coatimundi cage built, I am whipped. Craig
