Temp Ranges...

Have another question for you all. Just recently moved home to oregon and am trying to set up my chameleon in a nice warm area. Problem is on the back porch where i set her cage the temp's are hovering around 90 degrees.. Is this way to hot for her? she has a place to shade in here cage and i've been misting her every couple hours. However pet store told me to keep them around 75-80 degrees. so i don't want to nuke her. I've been moving her cage back to my room at night and setting up her lamp to keep her warm. Oregon nights still get pretty cool. Guess my question is what kind of max temps are safe to keep a chameleon in? if i set her out on the padio later this summer it will be around 100 degrees... bothers me to think it might be to hot.

thanks for your time!

I haven't answered this because I was hoping that someone who lived in the same climate as you would answer it....but you haven't had an answer....so....

I have never kept one outside in this temperature...but I think 90F should be fine as long as the chameleon has access to shade and is WELL watered and it can cool off at night. (Mine have sometimes ended up in temps that high in the house....but only for 4 or 5 days at the most.

You said..."I've been moving her cage back to my room at night and setting up her lamp to keep her warm"...she should have darkness at night to sleep....and the temperature can drop into the high 60'sF without any problem. In fact its supposed to be good for them.

You asked..."Guess my question is what kind of max temps are safe to keep a chameleon in? if i set her out on the padio later this summer it will be around 100 degrees... bothers me to think it might be to hot"...I can't tell you a maximum, but I wouldn't want to risk mine being out in temperatures that were constantly that high.

Hope you get it figured out and that she does well for you!

Thanks for the response! The heat worried me so i just set her up inside. maybe later i'll figure out a way to put her outside for some sun. Also the neighbors cat got interested in her cage... that just seemed like to much stress for the lil girl.
