A few ohters I got paired up tonight...

jlassiter May 14, 2006 10:06 PM

This is a pair from my Vivid line....I produced them both in 2003.

This pair was produced by Tim Gebhart at Vivid and sold to Tom Stevens.......I got them on permanent breeding loan.....I hope they produce finally.

This pair of Ruthveni were produced at Peace River Herps.....I am pairing them up for the firs time this year....

This pair was also produced at Vivid....These are some of the nicest looking MSPs IMHO!

The olive colored female is from MPJ Exotics out of Philly. She has been my most prolific and reliable breeder for the last 5 years.....Maybe she has one more in her. The male is an Evan Stahl creation purchased from David Weymouth at Mt.Kings.com.

Just wanted to share some of my pairings......I have all my fingers crossed this year.....Wish them luck!!!!!

Chris, They're Eastern Blackneck Garters. We don't breed them anymore, only thayeri. Why , You like them?.......mike

vichris May 15, 2006 09:59 PM

We have blackneck garters out here too, but they are a much lighter grey color. Did'nt you have albinos too? I used to keep the ones we had out here but they we're kind of hard to feed.

I was thinking since we both like those green thayeri........... and since you have some nice yellow ones...............if I could develop some blue thayeri................ then we could breed your yellow ones to my blue ones and we should be able to make some killer green ones. Whaddya think?

Chris, we had all kinds of garter morphs. Anery, albino, snow, red albino, etc...........garters usually like to eat small fish and frogs, tadpolls etc. But we trained all of ours to eat frozen thawed mice only.....The ones where you are may be the western blackneck. They are'nt as colorful as the eastern...here's a photo of one of our snow iowa plains garter babies.......all are history now.........only thayeri now......mike

vichris May 16, 2006 10:47 PM

all? Yes the western blackneck is a light grey and most have dull yellow striping. I have seen a few with more yellow but none of them are as nice as the eastern ones.

I saw a small one about half a mile from water last year when I was elk hunting. Usually they are very near water or in water around here.

Sur'nough dem be some good pairins'!
Just like everything in Texas you go big or go home and there's no half arsing it.

I can't wait to see the results those fine pairings.
My question is;

What do you have breeding this year for the other mexicanas like mex mex, greeri, or alterna?

If I remember correctly with all the mex mex you have your a year or two off before haveing a bunch of the mex mex's paired up and had some interesting pairs planned like dark phase together, key holed saddles, ect. Considering how uniform the the other mexicanas are compared to thayeri, it is going to be interesting how some of the pairing you talked about in the past turn out.

Best of luck of this year's breeding,
Uncloudy

Chris,
As for the mexicana department....I have 9 potential thayeri females with 6 males to choose from.
I think there is a pic of my dark phase mexmex pair hooked up in the photos.....I also have my splitbanded male mexmex paired up with an F2 female from John Cherry. And yes, the other mexmex projects are at least 2 years off since I just got the babies for my projects last summer/fall......
Also.....I am breeding my Albino Ruthveni to my het female....
As far as Greeri and Alterna I have yet to find a nice male for my younger sibling to the striped Greeri. I have a nice dark male Hwy 277 male that I have not found a female for.....

I do have some MBKs, Brooksi, Calkings, Holbrooki, Splendida and Hondurans breeding though........
Should be a fun year
