I am curious about your opinions on UV light.
I noticed that my Southerns are primarily active during the day (the temp at night where I live drops into the 50s so nights are not especially condusive to activity). They do a lot of climbing as well.
I raised 4 juvis (Red was one of them) from 6" to almost a foot without any UV, I simply made sure that they got plenty of vitamins and calcium. When I finished college and brought Red home, I set up her cage near a window and in the afternoon she would climb up her big branch.
That got me thinking that maybe she was trying to bask and did need UV so I went and got her a UV light, but now she hides when I turn it on. I have not noticed any changes in her health (which has always been excellent) since the addition of the light.
What do you guys think? How many of you have UV lights? Do any of you have southerns that utilize basking lights?
