adamjeffery May 15, 2006 10:50 AM

so i now have 2 females and want to get a male. i am experienced with breeding snakes and want to try my hand at leos.
my question is if i get a male right now will he try and successfully mate if the conditions are correct? or do i have to wait until next breeding season?
with snakes they mate on what ever season they are accustomed to you providing

He most chances will breed if he is sexually mature and the conditions are right (or even close). Alot of people don't even cool there leos before breeding.

Leos don't need to be cooled, and it is dangerous to do so. They will work of the natural light cycle that comes through the window, or you can blacken the windows and create your own season light cycle, to get the girls ready. The male will breed as soon as he gets a chance, they have one track minds. But he should be quarantined for 60 to 90 days before being introduced to the girls. And then it is still up to the girls if he is going to get lucky or not. If they are not ovulating then they won't submit to him and may fight back.

I hope this helps.

Hey, I thought I would just offer my input. I whole heartedly agree with the not cooling them down. I normally put my females in with my male of choice whenever they're ovulating and breeding weight/age. Each time there has been a successful mating and healthy eggs to follow. Hopefully this was helpful.
