Cage Designs

SandmanDI May 15, 2006 12:32 PM

Hi everyone, still looking for some help on an enclosure. I want it to be around 5' long and 2' deep and tall. I want two enclosures stacked on top of each other. I want full spectrum flourescent lighting in both and heat lamps in both. I am looking for anyone who has any kind of experience with something like this or who has cages like this. If anyone has any pics that would be awesome! Thanks again!!

Building a basic cage is pretty simple. They are nothing more than a box built from the material of your choice.

Other than the lighting and heat sources, what else are you looking for in this cage? What is most important to you - looks, lightweight, or inexpensive?

Also, what species will be housed in these cages? That can make a difference when it comes to selecting a material and/or sealer.

I was just looking for someone who had some plans for a cage just to get me on the ball.

I want it to be as inexpensive as possible, but not to sacrifice looks and health of the animals.

The cages will house bearded dragons and other desert reptiles. I know pretty much already the lights I will use and the arrangements but I was looking for some plans if anyone has any. But thank you for the help.

For desert species melamine is tough to beat for an inexpensive cage material. It is heavy, but it's a worthwhile tradeoff unless you'll be moving the cages frequently.

And it does come in 5x10 sheets from cabinet supply shops which might make building the cages to your desired size easier.

Bighurt has some pictures that will be of help to you. You should look for some of this recent posts.
