a regular light for heating, or a red nighttime bulb, does either one produce more heat if they are the same wattage?

Is there a reason you can't go with a UTH?
If You're planning on leaving this on at Night, would definately go with the red... to much light will stress them out.
Not sure about the wattage vs output of heat. You should use a thermostat with what ever heaing method you are using...Better safe than sorry!

actually i have uth with thermostats..... but i have one bp who seems to like to bask under a light during the day, i have a low wattage bulb and she will get under it
I believe they produce the same amount of heat. The red lights are used for heat at night because reptiles can't see the color red, and it doesn't disrupt the day/night cycle.
