boa throwing up!!!

skatecoupard May 15, 2006 02:06 PM

I got a month or two old red tail two weeks ago at a rep. show. When i brought it home i tried to feed it a live fuzzy mouse and she eat it.A couple of days later i fed it a live full grown mouse and the next day i was holding it and that night it threw up the mouse.I thought it was from me holding it to close after it eating. Then this past friday i fed it again and yesterday "sunday"it threw the mouse up again.I was woundering if its because the mouse is to big and it can digest it.And iv read that boas will sometimes throw up mice because there is little meat and alot of fur.tomarow im gonna go to the store and buy pinky rats because it dident throw up the the fuzzy mouse i hed her. The breader that i bought it from fed it rat pinkys.

big for babies. Mouse hopper or rat pink/fuzzy is much better. Even so, I would wait a few days to handle her after feeding.
Since she did regurge, try feeding a smaller prey than she would normally eat, as in a new born rat pink or mouse crawler. This will be easier on an agitated tummy.

Delusions of Grandeur feed the EGO...

you stated that you fed its 2nd meal just a couple of days after the 1st. I believe that one meal every 7 days is plenty. Any more often is a strain on their digestion. The meal was also too big. Now that it has vomited, its lost valuable stomac acids that it needs to digest and if you try to feed it again too soon (even a small meal), it'll likely vomit again. I'd wait a full 2 weeks and try to feed it a fuzzy mouse (small meal) with out holding it for the week after feeding. I'd keep the meals on the small side for a few feedings so that you don't stress or strain it on its recovery. In this situation, less is more as far as health is concern. Good luck, David
