No insulated box... How many...

PGoss May 15, 2006 11:47 PM

of you have shipped or received reptiles without insulated boxes? I have had quite a few reptiles delivered. Some with insulated boxes and some without. A couple times they were shipped in an ordinary shipping (i.e Fed Ex) cardboard box with a "live harmless reptiles" sticker. Obviously, the need for an insulated box depends greatly on the weather, but there are still many temperature changes during flight, etc. Basically I'm just curious about the numbers (insulated boxes vs. uninsulated). Also, any bad experiences either way. Thanks for your replies.

I've received between 15 and 20 shipments over the years and all came in insulated boxes. I've also sent out dozens of shipments and all went in insulated boxes.

recieved or shipped myself was in an insulated box. The insulation alos helps with structural integrity of the box, maintaining a more controlled temperature, and that little extra shock dampening.

regardless of the weather. Boxes are too easily damaged or crushed...the crush factor is very important to me. I'd rather pay a bit more in shipping and have a sturdier box that can handle having other boxes thrown on it.

I have received a number of boxes without lining...even from some big name breeders. It's just something I won't risk myself.

shipped in insulated boxes. The times I have received them in regular boxes, they were shipped from reputable people and I found it rather strange. Just wondered how many others had the same experience. Great point about the structural integrity of the box as well. I was only considering temperature fluctuations.

liner. Why chance it? What if the box is in a warm place in the truck/plane, what is the box is next to a frozen item. There are so many ways your boa can get screwed up in shipping even with the styrofoam liner, why chance it?
