I wasnt sure if i was clear in the previous post
I use back heat 11in heat tape on most of my ball pythons. It works great. The only problem is I feel it loses more heat and takes more electric to operate than belly heat.
You would achieve more efficiency by using it for belly heat. As you know, heat rises. So when using back heat only, very little heat is dispersed horizontally; the major proportion of the heat is rising at the back of your tubs. By using belly heat, the heat is rising across the entire width and length of the heat tape.

I have it on one of my racks and it's really not very good - although, better than nothing. I will never go back heat again. It has to work harder and you lose too much energy. All the females in the racks for back heat were late laying eggs - I think due to adequate heat. I also find animals in this rack trying to lay on the back side of the cage (along the wall).

I have switched from heating an entire room to using belly heat. The belly heat is by far the best.
You save energy by using belly heat. I fell you get better digestion as well with belly. Not only will you provide a good hot spot but the tubs spread the heat out better. I have noticed that the tubs are warm over half the bottom of the tub where the heat has disapated(spl) creating a good gradient.
