National Guard on Border

stevenxowens792 May 16, 2006 12:00 PM

Just wanted everyone to be aware that the President of the US just sent National Guard to our borders to stem the flow of immigrants. So if you get pulled over by a hummvee or an M1 don't be surprised.

It seems we will now have to once again explain ourselves to a new group of individuals who will most likely not understand...

Best Wishes,

Steven

like in the late 80tis when all of those Mickey Mouse cladded tee-shirted DEAs were out there jumping out from the rocks on River Road !

at least they are not going to be armed. it should be fun at the check point next week. I'm bringing my passport to Loma Alta!

The did say the guard will be there only to set up fences etc, not enforce anything. But it is like 16000 new people along the borders.

Hey, who knows maybe we can convert a few of them into collectors this year. Stranger things have happened.... Like the old Val Verde Sherrif that used to spotlight with his LE truck in Langry.

The sheriff!!!! That was Sheriff Burns. He would always be in Langtry or on Juno and talk to us. Bless his soul.

I have no problem with law enforcement stopping illegal flow of anything. For every person they don't check could be a potential threat in some way. More power to them.

That would be amusing to be pulled over on either the River Road or Black Gap by a couple of zit-faced National Guardsmen. Would I have control of the situation once that I explained to them that I am armed, and they are not?........lol! We all need to bring some alterna pics with us. Perhaps we can enlist these newbies into bagging some specimens for us. At least they can be doing something useful. I liken this new approach to the illegal immigration problem to the perpetual "war on drugs". I've been told that if you index the cost of dope to inflation of our greenback, dope is actually cheaper now than it was 20 years ago............Your tax dollars at work, folks!.......pissing money down the drain........AGAIN!

Well this is not really a political forum to discuss if they should be there or not. But I for one don't mind them being there. Maybe i'm being too patriotic but those zit faced men deserve our respect and have enough work to do. I would rather have my tax dollars going to the men and women who defend our country instead of paying for all the illegals sitting in our prisons. Unfortunately we're forced to pay out more to keep them out. But it's money well spent.

From what I remember and a book. Years ago and I'm talking many years there was a shoot out several miles outside west Lajitas. Then there was the shooting and killing of a rafter that involved a lengthy court battle what I believed was a negligent deal on the raft company by the widow of the man shot. There was some kind of shooting and killing of 3 people and one was reported to be a child in and or around the park. These are sketchy in remembrance by me. But there is no sketchiness to the book that told all of the drug trafficking days and the drug lord that was killed across the river of the late 80ties. More recently there was a non-fatality shooting in the state park ranch that is confusing to what actually happened. We were shot at one time at the tee pees. This was daytime and we got out of there faster than you know what. It WAS about the same time the drug days was so apparent by every one it seems but us reptile lookers. Good old R Duncan did some warning to us as to stay off RR sometimes.

i read somewhere that the drug dudes would take pop shots at the rafters when they got close to the crossing locations that the smugglers used, dude this sounds like the old miami vice......they would shoot from the mexican side.....i heard that duncan moved to la after his second divorce, both wives had the same name, and was a magician at parties, is this true??.....any one here ever meet that crazy angie lady that owned the kite store, she liked tequilia.......do i know you chambers???

mchambers May 19, 2006 05:36 PM

With more than 50 trips down there on my end Bob, I would think that we had met sometime of past. Duncan is living in Oklahoma the last time he got ahold of me and tried to get me in another of his net working schemes . LOL ! He had married for the third time to a much younger lady and was expecting a child ( my lord, Duncan was in his 60ties on this )I heard. Duncan got booted out of Lajitas on his pending or final divorce with the niece of the previous Lajitas owners. Yes, she had the same name as his first wife. He lived fairly close to me in the Kansas City area for a time when we had our pet store and lived there. This was in between the time they had to move in LA. to OK. If it was the same lady, Angie Dean more or less ,owned multiple shops for years at Lajitas. She also was famous for some of the researched history of that area. I think she even had her hands in the " political " circle of Lajitas.
