mixing leapord geckos?

archimedes May 16, 2006 01:42 PM

I have a leapord gecko that is about 6-7 months old. I believe it is a male, but I am having trouble telling for sure. If I choose to get another leapord gecko, will it be a problem mixing them, since one will be very young (the age they sell them at the pet store) and this one is a little older, although not an adult. Also, how can I make sure I am getting 2 different sexes, as I understand from different reading that 2 males cannot be placed together?

It is not a good idea to mix sizes. The larger ones will pick on the smaller ones. And putting a male and female together before they are old enough and large enough to breed is risking their health. I would suggest another viv if you want to get another one.

I second everything posted previously. You don't want them competing for food either. Keep them until they are relative in size and then introduce, under supervision of course, but make sure that if you put a male with a female you are 100% ready for the responsibilty of babies. They should be having babies if you are planning on it and have all the proper setup and care available to be provided to the little ones.
