Sick turtle, now pasted away

tammystu May 16, 2006 01:53 PM

Someone please help, I put a post on about my sick turtle. And was told it was a respitory Infection. So I took my turtle to the vts last night and the vet told me there was nothing wrong with her.He also said her water temprature was too cold( 79°)that was why she was swimming sideways, and that I should just take her home and warm up her water to about 87° so I did.

I woke up this morning to find her dead floating in her tank.

Why would she die if the vet said there was nothing wrong with her?

Your turtle died because basically your vet is an idiot. A quack who shouldn't be allowed within a country mile of a turtle. If he can even spell the word I'd be surprised. He probably got his degree mail order fom Podunck University. I think he should be tarred and feathered and run out of town on a rail. End of story.

While I won't insult this vet as much as the other poster, I would suggest finding someone more experienced with turtles.

sometimes vets don't really know what they are talking about, not trying to blast them or anything, but there is a lot of species they must know about. my guess that it was an internal thing, if it was swimming sideways it could have been a lung problem, but def. not a respitory infection. i've had turts who have had both and they are VERY different, don't really know how somebody could get those confused.
