NEW LITTER TODAY good and bad news

MarcS May 16, 2006 02:46 PM

Well this is my second litter this year. Not the best but Im still happy. I hope someone can help me out with this. This breeding was from a male Albino and male Dh Snow to a Dh Ghost. My first intention was to breed the Dh Snow x Dh Ghost but while they were together I didnt see much going on with the male (dh snow) I kept him in there but added a Albino male to the mix to get things going. Anyway this was her first litter and the results are 7 slugs 3 kinked which died little after birth and 10 live. From looking at the babies I would say the Dh Snow did do something cause there are Hypos, Ghosts, Anerys and Normals BUT BUT WAIT one of the kinked ones that died was white cant tell what it is. So does this mean the Albino also did his thing? Let me know what you think. The pics are on my site under new litter.

Sorry about the slugs and preemies, but on the other hand it looks like your female DH Ghost proved out to be a Triple het aka hypo het snow aka het moonglow aka hypo het anery also het albino. I would assume by the odds that the male het snow did the job. Congrats on proving out that female.

With all the morph breeding gpoing on it does not surprise me at all that an albino gene popped up in an animal not identified as possible het for albino. I do think we'll see this more and more with the recessive taits. For example, if you had and bred a Anery possible het albino with a ghost, you might forget (or even think it's not worth mentioning) the remote possibility of there being a albino gene in there. Could be very small percentages.

are salmons that were produced from a possible het x salmon, I don't really even think about them proving, but they could if I tried to make albinos with them.. I probably won't try for albinos with them, but there is always the chance they could be hets..

Looks like you got lucky!
