Tame Yellowtail...

Royreptile May 16, 2006 06:27 PM

It seems as though I've been quite lucky with my Yellowtail so far. He has never once attempted to bite me, or anyone else for that matter. In fact, my dad had a couperi, and he and I agree that my Yellowtail is just as tame as his couperi was when he still had it. Does anyone else have similar experience with their Yellowtail/s?

I'm glad to hear I'm not the only one with a "tame" Yellowtail!!!

Yes the ones I shipped to you are very tame but your female is a sibling to that male! Go figure.

I currently have 2.4 large adult D. corais and all are as tame as any of my D. couperi. I once had a young male that was quite a hand full, bit my wife a few times when she transferred him to his tub for feeding and enclosure maintenance , but she started handling him daily and after a couple of weeks he had lost all interest in acting defensive.
I have said it once, I will say it again; temperament cannot be judged solely on the genus, species or sub-species, as each specimen will harbor its own unique disposition.

Best regards,

Jeff

I've seen alot of wild snakes Indigos and coachwhips and fla pinesnakes and jeff is correct in sayin every snake has a different attitude, I currently have three pair of WC eastern coachwhips and three strike every time I open the glass three I can handle and seem tame..JB

Yeah, I absolutely agree with that. I have an Amazon Tree Boa that was at one time very tame. Unfortunately, I had someone else board him for a while and he lost his liking for humans in that two week period of time. Another, strange thing; when I caught my first Sonoran coachwhip it only tried to get away by "death-rolling" and whipping about and never tried to bite me. After a couple minutes of handling it would even let me touch its head without flinching.
