HELP MY PLEASE!!!

playmatekozmo May 17, 2006 01:48 AM

I have had Gumbo for over 3 years now. Tonight she managed to get out of her cage, I still for the life of my cannot find out how, and I also have a cat. I found her tail, detached in the middle of the living room floor. Of course I immediatly thought the cat ate her. But after calming down I realized the only thing to indicate that is the detached tail which was dropped, not ripped or torn off. There was no blood anywhere other than the couple drops on the end of the tail, no remnants of the gecko anywhere, and the cat was completely clean. I know she can clean herself but I would have thought I would've found some blood or something on here teeth, whiskers, facial/paw fur between her claws or somewhere but there was nothing. The detached tail was not chewed on or clawed in any way. I'm not sure if it's more likely that she's been eaten or hiding up in the furniture somewhere but the cat has been quarantined. In the event that Gumbo is hiding, how would I go about coaxing her or aiding her out so I can make sure she gets the proper nutrition which is crucial right now and obviously so i can see her alive again. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. And if anyone knows anything else that might help me determine her fate that is also appreciated. The only thing worse than finding her dead is not knowing or her being alive after the "cat attack" and then dying of starvation or something. Please help me! E-mail me at playmatekozmo@yahoo.com or leave something here I will check often. Thank you.

If you have a heat lamp i would set that out somewhere with like mealworms under it and a hide under it. Seal off the lever where you found the tail and jsut search and search till you find it or wait for it to take the mealies.

Look in warm or dark areas.

And warm dark areas.

In the past i've found one in an underground vent, inside my shoe, and under my washer and dryer.

Just an update. It's been 5 days since Gumbo disappeared and I still have not seen nor found a trace of her besides the initial tail. I've put out a heat lamp and her favorite hide on the floor along with a dish of mealies and she has not been there thus far. I'm starting to loose hope that she's still alive somewhere. I've looked and looked and torn everything I own apart and-nothing. As horrible as it sounds I'm almost hoping maybe if she is dead that the cat did eat her and she's not "sitting" somewhere. Of course I still hope she's alive and just being a stinker and will come out. I still don't see how the cat could have eaten her without leaving any trace....
