Intruders invding my crix tank!!

lvergrl_2001 Jul 31, 2003 01:25 AM

A few day ago I noticed about five of what i think are mini-catapilliars. They are approx. 1 cm in size, almost black-navy blue color with hairs growing out of the back. I live in Central Cali. and wanted to know if anyone else had ever experienced or seen this. Lately it's been very hot here and wanted to see if the was anthing I can do. I don't want my beardie getting sick! Any suggestions will be gladly appriciated!

Thanks!
Michelle and Jessibelle

they might have come with the crickets, if they are the ones i think they are breeders use them to eat the dead crix, and the dragons love to eat the little fuzzy guys

If they are what I think they are (from the description they sound much like the larvae I found with my crickets awhile ago) I think they are the larvae of carrion beetles.

My dragon eat one that dropped into his cage before I had a chance to stop it. There was no ill effects that I noticed because of it. I wouldn't recommend just feeding them to your dragon intentionally.

those are dermestid beetle larve. they eat the dead crickets. They are benificial to the cricket bin. Keeps it a lot cleaner.
