Awesome snake Dan......I really like the "KEYHOLED" saddles..
By the way, how is/are the Leopard project(s) coming along this year?
I am really looking forward to seeing the offspring from the leopards and perhaps getting a pair from you.
Good Luck Dan,
John Lassiter
Thanks John for the kind words. The Leopard female appears gravid. I bred her to her Leonis brother this year. He's not a leopard morph, more of a cream/gray with thin Leonis saddles/bars and some alternators. I hope this pairing can "unlock" more leopard morphs. As you know, with thayeri, we're not talking simple recessive genetics. It's possible NO leopard morphs will emerge from the clutch, which is what happened last year, but only five babies hatched.....had it been a bigger clutch, perhaps a leopard may have emerged. Here's a link to the 2005 clutch:

That one is very nice. You have great animals.
I'm still watching things carefully here in Louisiana. The committee isn't considering the bill this week, so I have at least another week to plot strategy.

It's not how many snakes you have. It's how happy and healthy you can keep them.
Thank you Bill for the compliment.
I hope you and all the other LA herpers have been on a writing campaign to your congressmen to fight this stupid bill. Unleash Your Inner Lobbyist!

Wow, whenever I see ones like these I imagine what kinds there will be in 10 or even 5 years. I may be new here, but it never ceases to amaze me how much diversity can come out of these guys. Awesome snake.

You're right Danielle. If you stay with it, you might be on the cutting edge of producing new thayeri morphs ten years from now.

It's been several years since I have worked with thayeri and greeri. Also, I only worked with them for about 3-4 seasons. I got out for two reasons. One of my best females turned into a black widow. Two years in a row she killed her mate. Then I was insulted by offers to buy all my clutches at $6 each. That doesn't even cover the food to feed an adult. At that time I was quick to bring in something new to the collection, work with it, learn as much as possible, and move on. My top priority was knowledge and hands on experience, not $$$. Recently I came to this forum. Still love all the beauty and variable looks of thayeri. I felt the group was a bit snobbish when a breeder posted pics and was immediately attacked about the purity. I hate mutts, learned of the problems associated with mutts from John Cherry. I had my doubts about the comments posted to that breeder. I looked at the pic of your snake, beautiful, stunning, etc. I know it's not a gray band but when I first looked at just the head it reminded me of a grayband. Not trying to stir the pot. Not saying anything about the purity so nobody needs to try and start a battle over this comment. A quick glance at just the head and it reminds me of a grayband.
Are you referring to head shape or color?

If I take just a quick glance at the head the features that remind me of a grayband are head shape, eyes, and the color/pattern.
Alterna and thayeri are genetically very similar and share a common ancestor. I suppose at some camera angles they can look similar. If her head was wider in the temporal area, and her eyes a bit more protruding (bug-eyed), I would agree.
