Middle East Snake Find

I live in Dubai in the Middle East - I was camping with friends last week in the desert when we came upon a snake basking on a rock. It was light brown in colour, with white stripes. It wasnt't that big - maybe four feet or so in length, but thick across the middle. Just wondering what it could have been??
