Hi:
I was wondering how old they'd be when they start calling. I've a a trio and yesterday one started calling we think. But, I believe he's only 8 months old. Isn't that too young?
Thanks-
Maggie

I have certainly heard my leucs calling around the age of 8-9 months. The call should sound like a bird trill. When you hear it try to locate the male with the inflated throat pouch. Often he will be elevated on a plant or rock. Good luck!
Thanks, I'll look for it! When did yours actually start mating in relation to the call?
Maggie
Male Leucs can call as early as 6 months old. The age could be dependent on health of the frog too. Sometimes you will the male calling when he does (you aren't home, you are watching TV, etc.) and you don't notice he is a male until later.
I have never put a young male with an older female to see if he would breed, but I suspect the males are ready to breed far before the females are (I haven't got eggs from any leucs under a year old).
