Beau...a few questions

JLExotics May 18, 2006 12:48 PM

I'm not the largest fan of dwarf retics and dwarf burms although I still have interest. My question is how big are the dwarf to normal's getting? I wouldn't mind picking up some of the morphs out there but they need to get smaller. I keep ceylonese and 12ft is a great size to deal with. I just don't want to get into huge snakes...I just call mine big lol.

I know this post isn't addressed to me, but I can tell you who first brought the dwarfs in, where they came from and a lot of background/history/etc on the people and the animals if you email me at David_Beauchemin@highendherps.com

David, why dont you email me the info and we can see if its accurate information or not. I know the person who first brought them in pretty well. Im sure that due to some rumors and upset people the events and info has changed over time!

Trust me, on this one I have my facts straight. Though naturally I am not about to post them here. Just too....sordid for family oriented forum. I don't get caught up in any politics. Too much drama.

I don't object to emailing though. I have kind of been wanting to meet with you eventually anyway.

I don't know your email but mine is David_Beauchemin@highendherps.com

Haha, ok, I guess we will see if they are straight or not. Yes you are right about one thing, there was a lot of drama involved with that mess!

Look forward to hearing from you

Hi John.. How are ya?? You have some nice animals over there for sure.. Not many people can handle the huge snakes, so the dwarves are perfect. On size on 50% dwarf animals, well, they arent old enough to know yet, but Bebo- Jim Mason, would be the best guy to answer this.

They do grow much faster and much bigger than 100% dwarf. From what I can tell they have grown to at least 7-8' in a year. But again, Bebo can tell you more info on that. Its to be expected that they do get bigger, but I am betting they wont on average get to be huge as normals do, especially if the dwarf parent is the female.

I would be interested in hearing from bebo to see if the 50% dwarf babies displayed the playing dead adaption??

Beau,

The dwarf hets I've held back are between 4-5', fed well weekly. Where as the normal sized burms of the same age(within 2-3 wks) are between 6-7' on the same feeding schedule and amounts. I'm sure if I would have fed them pretty heavy they would have grown a little more,, and be over the 5' mark. But I don't see the point in that, lol. As far as playing dead, no they haven't done much of that. Some will basically freeze still, and hardly move a at all. But thats about it.

And yeah david I agree, the influence of the two genes show in alot of the dwarf hets. So we'll which ones prove out for what! Thank's.
Jim

Jim.. You have done great work, especially for getting into to them fairly late, earlier than most, but, you will do some great things with these guys and I look forward to seeing what you produce. Next time I have dwarf babies I will video tape them playing dead. Its very weird.

I was off on the size, sorry. Thats why I knew you would be the guy to ask.. SO they are staying or at least growing slower then normals.. Cant wait for the dwarf het albino labs this year! and there will be dwarf het T and dwarf het genetic hypo.

Keep me posted on your dwarf projects!! Good Luck.

My favorite burm morph has always been the labs. Nice to see they are staying smaller!
