White "plaster of Paris" stool

tortluvr May 18, 2006 01:27 PM

I have a 4.5" Sulcatta tort that all of a sudden has a white stool that looks like Plaster of Paris. He eats a wide variety of healthy vegetables with some watermelon rarely. I have had him about 9 months and never have seen this before. I also have 9 other torts of various species, housed seperately. Please help with any thoughts possible. Thanks!

That is urates and is usually a sign of low hydration and/or foods high in oxalates. Increased soakings and providing a constant supply of water in addition to providing a humid hide coupled with a good ambient temperature should reduce or eliminate the chances of bladder stones which usually result from a better than good hdrated state.
