"Mixing" Red Eye Tree Frogs?

wendysjungle May 18, 2006 01:49 PM

Hi there,

I have a RETF that I have owned for a couple of months, set up in a nice big vivarium. He's been doing great, so I decided to get him a a couple of friends, as I heard they do better in a community. The two new frogs arrived today, and are currently in a quarantine tank, but they look so different from my guy. Mine is a very pale kind of seafoam green body with yellow and pale blue on his flanks. The two new guys are a very intense bright green, with yellow and dark blue/violet on their flanks. Obviously from a different region, but still RETFs. Is it okay to have them all in the same tank together once the quarantine is done? I haven't been able to find any info about this online anywhere. Anybody experienced in this?

I would think that it would be okay, the only RETF's I wouldn't mix together would be the ones with orange on their legs (those are from Mexico & tend to be smaller). I would post this question on talk to the frog

Thanks Steve,

These guys are all about the same size, so no worries there. I did email a local frog breeder who discusses the various color morphs of RETFs quite a bit on their website, to get an opinion from them. If I hear back, I will post their reply.

I hadn't heard of Talk To The Frog, will search them out and see what they have to say.

The two types of RETF are Mexican and Amazon? I dont have any but looking into them . The Mexicans sound nice to as like small trees .
