Hey Jeff, nice snake.
I see you are having the same problem I am with the CoolPix 7600.
When you are trying to take nice, close macro shots the lens will actually block the flash partialy.
I sometimes have to back the shots off a little more then I would prefer just to keep from getting that shadow at the bottom of the pic.

Is there any way to take the pic with the camera upside down, or tilted? Maybe have an extra light pointing at the snake. I like your closr up pics, it'd suck if a new camera prevents them. Hey, if you have too many problems, feel free to send the camera to me!!!!!!!!!
