Cause for concern?

the_Ox May 18, 2006 07:04 PM

Our female corn laid one egg last night - It was a slug. She is not HUGE but definately has more eggs. The male was a young virgin.

Is it common for a female to drop a bad egg 24 hours or more before laying the rest of her clutch? I don't want to get overly concerned for no reason.

thanx for reading.

Matt

Could be either the only slug or the start of all slugs. No way to tell and it is 50/50 with a first year male. When the female has a slug, it will often be laid before the rest of the clutch but a female will also lay a all slug clutch over a few days.

Good luck man

The disclaimer I post "I am not an expert", but from what I have picked up, slugs are harder to pass. Someone just recently posted about a slug. Go back in the archives a bit. The title was "random slug". I think the same thing happened to them, but it was the second clutch. I am sure some of the breeders on here can give you a better answer. I would just keep watching, and if too much time passes, take her to the vet, she may be egg bound.
