A friend of mine likes to rescue snakes from local pounds that euthanize animals and then adopt them out herself. Knowing that I desperaty want a Ball Python, she dragged me along with her today to pick up a BP she saw on the West LA Animal shelter's website.
So, we get there expecting to see a fullgrown BP (the picture wasn't very clear) and they bring out a little juvi. Apparently the little guy was a stray...someone found him in the street and brought him in! We asked if he was eating and they said "Oh yeah! We just fed him a pinky this morning!" A PINKY?? This guy could easily take a small mouse, and looked underfed. Other than that though, he looked quite healthy. No wheazing or bubbling, no mites...certainly not the prettiest BP I've ever seen (his colors are pretty washed out)...but was probably the most docile I've handled. For a pound find, he was extremely alert and inquisitive, yet not head shy in the least. A total sweetheart.
So, we picked up a mouse on the way on a whim to see if we could get some more food in his system. We weren't planning on him eating, after all the excitment he had had that day, and because he was in front of a bunch of strangers...but he snatched up a F/K mouse without any hesitation what so ever, and gulped it down right in front of us! And boy did he perk up after that! I think it's the first real meal he's had in weeks.
He's currently at my friend's house now...as I continue to work on my boyfriend to talk him into me fiiiinally getting a BP. LOL. At least either way, I know he now has a good home (anything is better than that shelter though!).
Again...not a supermodel by any means...but his temperment is definatly worth more than the $5 he cost to adopt.

I bet he will brighten up a bit with a good shed. I've gotten a few rescues that were drab but after some proper care were pretty stunning looking.
