Another "Bicolor" Hognose

lizard queen May 18, 2006 11:18 PM

Here are a few pics of my female tricolor. She hatched last August, and I received her in late January of this year as a normal looking tricolor. Over the last 3 months, she has lost more and more of her red with each shed, and with this last shed has turned almost solid black and white.

I am in Oregon, USA--i am assuming from your web address that you are in the UK.

Just curious, did your black/white hognose hatch out that way, or did it start out as a normal looking tricolor, and gradually lose its red?

how old is yours, and do you have any pics of the parents?

thanks,
Kelly

It looked like a perfectly normal hog when he hatched, hes about 18 months old now, he got darker and darker till he went like he is. Its a shame we cant do a project lol!!!

Thanks for the pics! That is interesting that yours lost its red as well...it is too bad that we can't pair our black/white hogs up...
I just got a male tricolor today from Jim McDonald, and I look forward to trying to breed my pair this fall. it will be interesting to see if this trait is genetic, and if it is recessive or co-dominant, or what...

have you tried to breed your black/white yet?

Same scenario-obtained last August at Daytona as a normal hatchling-over the last few sheds has been losing red. Now the only remaining red is in two small patches of only a couple of scales on each side of the neck. Further, some white bands faded until now the only remaining markings are 7 rough diamonds spaced down her back! These look like they may eventually be lost as well.

I'm packing to leave for 10 days of alterna hunting in west Texas, but I'll post pics when I return in early June.....

Actually it was picked up for me by a friend, so I'm unsure who produced it. I'm on my way to texas right now (I live in upstate NY), but I'll be sure and post a pic when I return in early june......
