My Sulcutas health...

reptaguy May 19, 2006 11:24 AM

Ok both of my Sulcutas are getting taller pyramids on their shells...They are still about one year old. I'm trying not to feed much protein to them but it just keeps getting taller pyramids...One other thing is, My sulcs have some white around the tope of their eyes...the top of their head...This is not bad is it? It's just dryness correct? My tortoises are in a dog pen with a mesh net on top with boards on the bottom so they don't think they can go through it etc...With a dog house inside of it for a shelter with alfalfa pellets(I know this is protein, but they don't eat them...If they do it's not enough to even notice). They are out all summer long their cage is half shade half sun and the dog house is on the shadey side. They have a terra cotta water bowl that I clean every few days and fill with water...

Thanks in advance.

1.1 Standard Poodles(One silver/gray, one champagne. Smokey,Lady.)
1.1 Sulcuta Tortoises(Young...But when I get out of colledge I will take them from my parents and breed them.)
1.0 Brussels Griffon (It's a Dog :P)

I am a young herper, but I'm obsessed with them. Learning everything I can.
I plan on going to colledge for a vet. masters. Plan on opening a quality vet. office that specializes in exotic & Reptiles. Planning for a large herp room in my own home.

(Obtaining 3 female Leo's in July at the texas herp show.)

This is a very interesting read on the causes of pyramiding.

Humidity plays a large role in this, not just protein. Please read the article & I think it'll answer your questions.
