Switching to F/T?

jennrosefx May 19, 2006 11:35 AM

If a reletively young snake was feeding on live, but took prekilled without a seconds thought...do you think it is likely he'll switch over to F/T...or is it all an individual basis?

I have switched 8 over to F/T With no problem... but they were pretty young, except one. All had been eating Live previously.

Doesn't sound like he's particularly shy (from your earlier post)The Only way to Know for sure is to try.
Make sure you thaw it fully (I usually take them out and thaw in the refrigerator the night before)
I heat mine up in a sealed baggy in hot water for about 10-15 min.
For Most of Mine, the F/t Must be really warm and dry.
Use tongs to 'serve'.. you may have to gently wiggel it.

Once you get him eating F/T Mice.. I would try to convert him to F/T Rat pups or weanlings... it will be easier when he grows bigger.
I order mine "the mouse factory" I believe there is a link here on KS supplier page for them. Their rodents are super clean, and plump, come in a variety of sizes and are neatly packed in vacuum sealed trays (like chicken nuggets.)

Good luck to You and your new animal.... I don't know if you've been warned, but BP's are extremely addictive!

A

Hello Jen,
I'm confident he will switch for you! I have 12 of my 13 balls on f/t rats and the last one on f/t mice. Some of them took a week or two and some took 6 months to get on f/t mice before rats, but with patience and consistent offering, it does happen in my experience. The coolest thing is that once a few of mine took f/t mice (after months of trying), it was a very short wait till they took f/t rats. I feed only f/t and have had good luck with it. Best of luck to you!
Glenn
