lele May 19, 2006 05:18 PM

for those of you in the Northeast you know we just had a solid week of rain and major flooding. Well, the boys couldn't get outside but here is a shot of Cyrus before the floods...

lele...the picture isn't showing up for me.
Bet he looks good, eh?!

I embedded from webshots. Wonder why some can see them and some not. Anyway, I finally deleted a bunch of stuff from KS gallery (takes forever!!) and uploaded it here - so here's my little (looks pretty big and threatening here!lol!) blue boy!

Thanks, yeah, he's a pretty guy (don't tell him I called him "pretty!" He has grown considerably, haven't weighed him for a bit, probably should. He's an average eater - does what he needs to do to get in my good graces so he can get out of his "house" and onto his gym, which I will soon be expanding.

Everyone is becoming disinterested in crickets, so I think after my contract is up (I think 2 more shipments) I'm done. They will be a treat, not a staple. Got the roaches going, supers, mealies, houseflies, the occasional wild catch...

I'll post more new ones since I have cleared out some space in the gallery

yeah, he's pretty stunning when he wants to be! His "mom" says he most resembles his maternal granddaddy, Legolas - what do you think?

Hit enter too soon! I have to give a lot of credit to Deanna at redoaksblues since she gave him his start! When I saw Dr. G. the other day about Darwin I brought that same pic of Cyrus and said I hope he NEVER MEETS HIM!!

Lele, Cyrus is BEAUTIFUL. I love his little red dots, also. I'm going to set-up something similar to your junge gym for him, too. If he comes out of his cage he will be able to see my water dragons and little Valentino. is this a bad thing? Diane

thanks for the comment on Cyrus - I know, his little red dots are SO sweet

as for him seeing the other animals it would likely be a stressor. I accidentally brought Darwin in to bask on the windowsill (we'd been doing this since last summer after Luna died) and after a while I happened to look at Cyrus who was all freaked out - swaying, puffed - and STARING at this spiny t6hing on the windowsill! I find if he is in the cage it is not an issue, but Darwin just sits there like a lump (lol!). Now I do have my little blotchie tank in here, too and Cyrus does not seem to even notice them, but they are only about 5" long (incl tail) and are either very still or dart around quickly, then stop.

Your situation might be different and, as you know what most say, don;t let them see other animals. I think in Cyrus' case with the blotchies (besides their size and location is that he is definitely in a place of superiority - if he was any higher he'd be on the roof! lol!

So you will have to gauge things for your setup, room size, etc. So you would let Chyam swing on the vines but not Val??

Well, I thought since their cages were side by side I might rig it up so I could just open one cage or the other and let them roam one at a time when I was home to supervise. I can run the vine away from the water dragon cage and Chyam's cage is wood and will hide him from view, but when he is out, Valentino will be visible.
I got a really gorgeous marble pothos plant in Alabama on our way home from vacation. I planted it in a wrought iron "Spanish" style hanging basket for Valentino's big boy cage. I have a similar planter in Chyam's cage and it has worked very well. The planter comes to a point at the bottom and you can put a narrow-mouth container under it to catch the misting water.
I think Cyrus might be even prettier than Grandpa (and that's saying something). His color is gorgeous and getting more so each month. You're a lucky gal, Lele! Diane
