Noticing ALOT of "Whole collection" sale

EmberBall May 19, 2006 05:49 PM

Are prices falling that fast, are people learning that a good number of "sales" are going to be trades, or what? Any thoughts?

People think they can buy a $5000 codom and make $$$$$$$ the next year. They dont realize you spend more time feeding, cleaning, breeding, keeping records, than you do at your day job. Then they have 10 babies in the summer and cant sell em because all the big breeders have the same thing so they sell their's first. They dont want to put that snake up, feed it for a year and sell it for $$$$ when its a breeder. They rather sell a $5k snake for $2k and be done with it. They dont like inventory!

They arent business people. They are looking for the quick buck just like everyone else in the country and or world. If this is your passion, you dont care about keeping that baby for a year.

Show me the last breeder pied female you have seen, or any of the S.R. morphs that are breeder age out there......... The business people keep em or sell em to people on the waiting list for em.....

Its not fast money and most americans are lazy and dont want to work for their money.........

Yeah, I said it!

lazy people grrrrr lol... Over investment is a key factor... Buy what you can afford not whats "going to make you rich"

we're here because a hobby became an obsession... if only every one had this much fun

some days your the dog, some days your the hydrant...don't know who started this saying but it's the truth

Kingofspades May 20, 2006 01:01 AM

Precisely.
I won't lie...when I first wanted to get into the hobby, I saw $40K price tags and $$$ signs popped into my eyes.

Now...I have decided that I am going to make what I want to make, and sell what I can IF I can.

I'm starting with a N.E.R.D Lemon Pastel male and 2 normal females.
My current goal is a super pastel in the next 3 years...
Then I will see what I can sell, and work on making myself some Pewters because I WANT one.
I may also get some het. albinos along the way. We'll see.

Perhaps we'll see some sort of normalcy soon? LOL! Meanwhile, my racks are happy to be filling up with morph females...hehe!

People have been selling there entire collections for years... there are so many breeders out there who just get burned out. If I had a dolloar for everytime I heard... yeah, I use to breed (fill in the blank with burms, boas, corns, bearded dragons, geckos) and then got out. Entire collection sales is a "herp" thing.

But prices have adjusted and the ridiculous 50000% returns on investment $$$ is a thing of the past I think. This will drive out a few "investors" who will chase the next get-rich quick scheme. So a few of these sales I'm sure are related to the "market" and dashed hopes at a million dollars overnight, lol.

The hobby is still very strong though and an excellent opportunity for those who really enjoy working with ball pythons. Like anything else... you get what you put in!

"Like anything else... you get what you put in!"

Really? When does the payment come? Is it like a tax return, can I check the status online... because I have been waiting for a long time now.

These crazy people... all the collections I see for sale only have co-doms, and young ones at that (nothing over 1500g), or non-popular recessive hets. I havent seen a collection worth half the asking price. Perhaps thats why they are selling.... because they realize they have spent a ton of money on a dead end. Its been really hard sitting back for several years watching everyone produce all these spiders, pastels, etc co-dom/dom, while I am growing up a mess of hets.... but in the end, my animals are still worth what I paid for them. Buying the collections I have seen for sale would be like buying a rundown snack store in a bad area.

BoulderBalls May 19, 2006 09:43 PM

No matter the animal, there will always be people that sell out of what ever they are breeding.

Typical flow of events:
1. Person buys a as a pet.
2. The person gets on the internet and finds a forum where lots of "breeders" are.
3. The person decides that they've always wanted to try breeding.
4. The person decides that they can "make money at their hobby" and buys more (and keeps what they breed).
5. Once the person has a decent number, they realize how much they are spending on food, caging / substrate, and time...
6. They sell every animal they have.

Just an observation, but people don't go backwards dramatically in their breeding colony. Once they are burnt out on an animal, they sell out. I have a snake that I bought a few years ago because someone was selling out locally.

Granted, I'm sure some people maxed out their credit cards because they thought they could be rich... Then they realized that they need the money NOW. They sell out. It happens.

Hell Dave
I'm glad they are getting out.I am sick of the crying I can'dt get 10,000.00 for my snake.PRICE AND DEMAND.they finally figured it out.If they sell out I don't have to hear them whine over prices. Now we can talk about what counts .What are we breeding and give each other Ideas! Not be concerned this guy stole my idea and is under selling me lets ban him.Reptiles are a hobby They tried to make it a MONEY MARKET.If you want to get rich invest in land .Stay out of our hobby!!!!!!!!

Did you know that some folks produce animals then sell them to others to sell. You betcha. What is funnier is they claim that THEY produced them. It is sooooo oblivious it is not funny. Shame they don't say that they purchased from x and are reselling them. You be surprised who the real breeder is.
Received lots of emails to buy other animals to sell.
Had one guy who wanted me to buy his platties for resale.
