Hand feeding Collared lizards

onthefly May 19, 2006 07:32 PM

How long should I wait to hand feed a female that is not eating, the day I got the lizards she eat three crickets, the next day it was one, now a couple days later she will chase the crickit around, lick the mill worms, and just try jumping out of the aquarium, the other female and the male seem to be O.K. with there new home (a 60gl. tank with the three lizards in it, rock piles as a basking spot at 100f the rest of the tank is around 85-90 is there anything I should change or do and how long do you wait to hand feed?

Thanks

I would just be patient You just got them and they need some time to acclimate and feel comfy in their new BIG home

If she ate when you got her, it's only been a few days, so hang in there.
Sometimes keepers only feed them every other day, as some do not eat everyday !

* Don't get into the hand feeding and stressing her THIS soon, way too early to start worring ! If down the line you would see shes not interested, and is losing weight THEN you can think about the hand feeding.
Give it atleast a week and see how she does. I say she will most likey eat more once settled. Females seem to acclimate better than males in my opinion.

Your temps seem good, 100 - 105 is Good for the basking.

Are these wc's, ? May want to consider having them wormed after awhile if they appear thin or lethargic. But for now let them just settle in.

Oh and how about some pics , hehheheee

Strange but beautiful collared lizard.

I found the problem, the pictures are to big and being the non-expert that I am, I can't figure out to reduce them.

I also forgot the part that these guys are totaly cool, they are wild cought but if I put my hand in the aquarium, the male will jump on my arm run up to my sholder and sit, he must be watching me play with Igore the Iguana and wants to come out and play to

jeune18 May 21, 2006 09:18 AM

i know the archaic way to reduce picture sizes and i will gladly tell you. i don't have any fancy software

ok open the picture up in "paint" (hit start, all program, accessories and then paint is there)

once you are in paint, on the top left near "file" is the word "image", select that and then select "stretch/skew".

under the "stretch" part of that box, be sure to reduce both pictures by the same percentage. if you make the picture too small, just click undo under the "edit" button

hope that helps

This picture thing is cool

jeune18 May 21, 2006 03:56 PM

their cage looks very nice. a couple things that i always have to ask, is everything in there planted all the way to the ground so if they decided to dig, the rocks/wood can't shift and crush the lizards?

is the rock pile secure so they don't somehow knock something and have it knock the pile over and kill them?

what is there substrate, the particles seem a little big, but i can't really tell. my only concern is impaction if the particles are large but small enough to get in their mouths

don't take these as criticisms, the cage is really nice, i just want to make sure everything is secure.

I just today replaced the sand with the play sand, the stuff that was in there was $$ T-Rex Bone Aid Calci-Sand $8.00 per 5lb. and that's 30lb. in there, I found out at the Pamona show, I did a bad thing using the Calcium-carbonate sand, the bad part is the right sand to use was $6.00 and the $50.00 stuff was the wrong sand. live and learn. As far as the rocks go I think I'm going to find one big rock for a basking spot, I also removed the background it looked good, but the Lizards would get up on the rocks and try to jump to the rocks in the background and smack the glass,so if I kill this set, I know what not to do for the next ones. (Kidding)
