Question about breeding.

necroscollector May 20, 2006 08:25 AM

Ok, I know some of you guys and gals are professional breeders who sale to pet shops and etc. But what does the average Joe do with all the babies once they are hatch and etc? I have talk to a few pet stores around my town and they will not buy animals unless they are USDA certified (watch ever that means).

The reason I ask is my snakes will be able to breed next year and I got to thinking what I am going to do with all the hatchlings??

thanks

i'm not a breeder or anything like that yet. But to let you know USDA is the United States Department of Agriculture. They help in regulating what can and can't be sold to the general public, in pet stores, and in accordance to state law.

yeah I know the USDA(United States Department of Agricultureis), but I guess when I think of them when I buy food...beef & etc, not reptiles.

So my next question then. Is it worth getting certified for a small breeder then?

I've never heard of this requirement but I'm not sure about the laws in your state. I would suggest that you check the breeder listing on the home page of this site. Find a breeder in your area and send them an email to find out about permits, local sales, etc.
