My adorable little Squirtle the tiny turtle passed away yesterday. I've had her since October, she was nearly a year old. I think she was a little failure to thrive turtle. She just wasn't growing. Her same-age tank mate was nearly twice her size.
She was a wonderful little turtle who loved chasing crickets & soaking in the "spa" every morning. She is already missed... Robin

It is never easy to lose them. At least your little one was well taken care of and probably lived much longer in your care than it would have otherwise.

Thank you. I'm taking comfort in thinking the same thing. I took good care of her...

I'm very sorry for your loss.
You may be right it may have just been a case of hatchling failure. In the wild not every hatchling survives for various reasons.. I think the same is true of CB turtles.. some just are not meant to live.
That doesn't really make it any easier but you did your best & that baby had a good life while it was here.

I remember those adorable pics of him along with a post you had written in April. We can only do our best.
I'm sorry for your loss.

I'm so sorry to hear about that. I know how tough it can be. I am glad to hear that the sibling is thriving!

I'm so sorry to hear about your little one: I remember how excited you were when the hatchlings first arrived. I know how hard it can be to lose one after caring for it for months.

Thank you all. I was really attached to her (I called it a her anyway). No doubt she had some genetic thing. I'm telling myself she had a little heart failure or something because it was so sudden. Just the day before she was active & eating & she appears to have died in the morning, as she was not stiff yet when I went to give her the morning "spa"- bath...

She was kind of a runt, I think. She wasn't the most skilled eater, often missing her target for 2-3 tries before hitting it, then losing it a few more times. She needed a little bug herding help in that department. And she never ate as many items as Yurtle, either. Boy, she came alive when she saw a cricket though! LOL! If I didn't herd it for her, she'd chase it all around the enclosure until she caught it. She was gaining weight, albeit slowly & was active & interactive. A good little turtle.
