RE: HELP ME PLEASE

playmatekozmo May 20, 2006 04:48 PM

Just an update. It's been 5 days since Gumbo disappeared and I still have not seen nor found a trace of her besides the initial tail. I've put out a heat lamp and her favorite hide on the floor along with a dish of mealies and she has not been there thus far. I'm starting to loose hope that she's still alive somewhere. I've looked and looked and torn everything I own apart and-nothing. As horrible as it sounds I'm almost hoping maybe if she is dead that the cat did eat her and she's not "sitting" somewhere. Of course I still hope she's alive and just being a stinker and will come out. I still don't see how the cat could have eaten her without leaving any trace....

I agree, keep looking. He'll show up when you least expect it, most likely. He will also probably forage at night for food so don't spray the bug dope in the house .

I lost a gecko and found it a year later in the basement doing just fine. I still have no idea how it got out . . . I think one of my younger cousins decided to play with it or something. Anyway, don't give up it may show up yet!

Whenever I get an escapee, I put out glue boards. These are found at Walmart, for pests(mice etc.). Buy the flat carboard ones, the cheapest ones I think, not the plastic ones with elevated sides. Lay them all over the floor where the gecko might come out at nite, especially along the walls.
When you catch it just pour vegetable oil on the glue board liberally where it meets the gecko. Then carefully rub your fingers under the sides of the gecko till it is completely free of the glueboard. Apply more oil if nessecary.
Wipe the oil off with paper towels or cloth and the gecko will be good as new.
I have done this with snakes and lizards for years with no adverse effects. The first time is a little scary.
It is the most effective method of retrieving a lost reptile that I know of.
Good Luck.
