retained feces in a JCP

janome May 20, 2006 10:32 PM

hello. i have a 7 foot male JCP. he ate on 3-25, 4-11 both times LX rat (f/t). then on 5-2 ate 2 LG rats. all during that time he didn't have a BM. he was in shedding mode for like 2 weeks. didn't move much during that time. tonight i got him out and wet him down to help him shed. i do mist his tank several times while he is cloudy.

i let him crawl around the back yard in the grass and he expelled alot of urates and feces but there was a little feces he couldnt get out. is this something to worry about???

i went on a chat room and they suggested soaking and massaging him a bit with baby oil so did that. now the feces feels like it went back in his bowels instead of coming out. is this normal? will he expell the rest or do i need a vet?? not that i have $$ for that so i'm taking the wait and see approach and see how he is overnight. anything else i can do? he's never had this problem. neither have any of my snakes. thanks for any help.

i house him in a big 80 gallon tank with big branches but he didn' move around much being in shedding mode. i have a 100 wt basking light for day and red light for night heating. its a bit warm here in az so don't worry about a UTH. or should I? the one that was on his tank just fell off after a while so i've just been going with the lights for extra heat they keep hot side in 90's. so i'm just wondering if could have something to do with it also.

also, sorry this is getting long, but how much should he be eating? am i feeding him to much now. he is the biggest snake i have. got him around 3 foot or so. i guess he is like 4-5 years old but that is a guess.

Be patient. Some fecal material can stay inside for a couple months.

he did eliminate a couple days later. ALOT. so i like to think the massaging/rubbing him some baby oil helped. i'm just glad he is ok.
