HELP!! RETF Eye Problem

dsheldon May 20, 2006 11:16 PM

When I was looking at my frog today I noticed that it had a "brownish" covering over one eye and its pupil was very large. THe other eye is the brigth red healthy color and its pupil is of normal size. Also, he seems a little bit "clumsy" when climbing but since the heat has been increased he has been getting better with that. Our house recently flooded and it went a couple of nights in cooler weather so if anyone has any ideas I would love to hear them. I will try to post a picture of him tomorrow.

I couldn't tell you what's wrong with your frog, but its probably better if you can get him into a small quaranteen tank with paper towel substrate until you can figure out what is wrong. That way you can watch him carefully and its easier to clean. Keep the water and paper towel clean.

Take your frog to the vet

Is it a light brown "net" like membrane? If not, is it still there? Get a picture if so.

Here a picture of him. And yes it was a net like covering. A mixture of betadine and water took some off. The eye is still brown and filmy but he also has a sore looking thing on his nose/head.

I can't really tell much from the pic. Be careful, they actually have a membrane sort like an eyelid that is a tan-brown net looking thing. I have some pics somewhere, but can't seem to locate them right now. I will try to post them later tonight or tomorrow. In the meantime, I would not rub anything else on it.

Can you get me a photo of the eye in question and I can be sure what you are dealing with?

Also, is the sore on the snout open? or swollen? or just discolored? If it is just discoloration, it may very well just be a result from you attempting to work on the eye thing..

It is most similar to the middle picture of yours.

I think it was file 100/130

If it is similar to that picture, it is actually apart of all retf's.. do not try to remove it. If you can get me a close up clear pic of the eye, we can be sure.
