So, I FINALLY got Lucifer to eat, and Ive been completely extatic about it.... but I took him out today to show my friend how fat he is, and noticed three or four little bugs... and im PRAYING that they arent mites... Theyre pretty little, and theyre perfectly round, like itty bitty pill bugs, and theyre either dark brown or black. Can anyone help?

Well from the sounds of it..tiny little bugs, and on the snake, sounds like mites..put the animal in water, mites tend to look like little specks of pepper floating in the water.

Though if they are mites..don't worry there are solutions out there to get rid of them, such as provent a mite.

hehehe. I just went through this. You should try having a mite outbreak with over 50 critters. wanna talk about bugs! I use frontline on mine. It's a bit expensive. I just get a spray bottle and spray a line down thier back and then 'rub it in'. I change the cage out and usually put paper towels down so I can watch the little suckers die. hehehehe. I've tried those regular mite treatments you get from petstores, and I really don't think they work, or at least not as effectivly. With the rescue I run, I get more freakin' mites than you can possible imagine! The frontline would probably do the job with one treatment if they aren't too infested. I get some things that thier skin is LITERALLY crawling with mites.... anyway. you might call a vet, they usually can tell you what to use. I'm looking into Bio Spot right now, its a lot cheaper and just as effective on dogs, but I'm still waiting on the vet to call me back about use on herps.
hope this helped.

OKAY - So they are defientely mites... they burrowed into the scales under Lucifer's skin, that seems to be the problem case. Personally, Ive had bad experience with vets in this city, and a lot of them are completely clueless about herps so Id rather try the few alternatives. Petsmart has quite the selection of mite treatments, are there any that are highly recommended? Also, what should I do about the cage? All of my reptiles are housed in the SAME room so of course, Im freaking out about the rest of them. Im gonna check my corns for mites and see if I see any, and hopefully they will be cleared.... Any other help or info?

You need to treat your whole collection, their enclosures and everything in them. I'd suggest using provent a mite because its made for use with reptiles. You have to be careful when using any chemical, so its best to use something approved for reptiles. Clean and treat everything weekly for a few weeks as eggs hatch and they will come right back if you don't. Good luck!

leopard gecko to transfer the mites to my python,it because i tried to clear it up with frontline. it goes off for a few week then came back and conquer the world again. i treat all my snake, the cages and bowl but not my geckos.
btw they are in the same room,
what should i do next!

tq in advance

snake mites are only found on snakes as far as I know. I don't think they would go after leopard geckos, but I could be wrong. It sounds like mite eggs are hatching somewhere around or in your snake cages, and thats how they keep coming back. I would just keep doing treatments and cleaning everything weekly until they are gone for good. Although you may have better luck using something like provent a mite than frontline. I've had some tough battles with mites and provent a mite did the job well. Its important to use as directed too.
