It's 96F in SE Georgia already. To make a little shade for Iggi, we planted a palm tree for her, in her outside garden. Now she can be a cool lizard!

Healthy and beautiful well cared iguanas. After so many sad stories im happy to see that some igs at least have good lives!

I try to show, through posts, pictures and videos, that an iguana can be raised that doesn't need an enclosure (after 1 year old), or a cage. They don't need leashes when they go outside, and can be (and should be) taken on vacations with the rest of the family. Iggi has never bit us, or tail whipped us, or deliberately scratched us. We don't need leather weldng gloves to handle her, and in fact, don't even trim her nails. We allowed her to sit on our head (despite James Hatfeild's warnings). We didn't use Melissa Kaplan's method of "domination" of your iguana, to scare it into learning we were the alpha ig. What we did do, is raise Iggi for the last 5 years, like one of our children. We hugged her and kissed her, held her and talked to her, even sung to her. Iggi is a whole house free roamer, with her own bed in her own bedroom. My wife tucks her in under a blanket, and gives her a goodnight kiss, every night. As far as daughters go, she looks like a green iguana. As far as iguanas go, she acts much like a human daughter. She knows we love her, and she loves us back. Iguanas can and do show affection, and are much more intelligent than the iguana experts think.

After raising 8 igs during 7 years i think that Melissa Kaplan's method to "tame"iguanas, her method of "domination" of your iguana, to scare it into learning we were the alpha ig, is the WORST possible method. It will make your iguana hate you and sooner or later he will take his revenge. When the iguana is small, young or as long as he feels weaker than you for any reason, he will obey you but when he grows up and feels he is ready he will attack you.
I changed completely my way to raise and to treat my igs.Now i only use the sweet approach, sweet talking, sweet touching and i really try NEVER to FORCE my ig to do anything he doesnt really want to.Since i stopped forcing him to take bathtub baths he started to enter by himself inside the large bowl of water i put in his cage.Iguanas are very smart and if you leave them alone without pressure they will find a way to survive by themselves.Thats my Very VERY Humble Opinion.
I also agree about the inteligence of the iguanas.Oh yes, they are smart and tricky. TREX knows his name and you cannot imagine the tricks he uses to fool me when he wants to climb my garden's trees, which HE KNOWS its forbideen! He pretends he is sleeping, he pretends he is just stretching his legs and when he sees im not watching him he jumps to the next tree!lol!!I do love him and i do hope he will live 20 years more!
How cute! It's been a long time but she looks as happy & content as she always does! Hope you all are doing well.
I'll have to get a picture of Forest's new perch on here for all to see (those of you who even remember Forest & I).
The story that goes along with the new perch is cute too so I'll get on it tomorrow.
Do tell, how is Ig Mommy?????????
Forest & I have been making pigs of ourselves all week...Publix has blackberries on sale 5/$5 & we have eaten TONS!
If a lizard had lips, his would be black!
Hope all is well & was great to see pic of Iggy, always my favorite ig....next to Forest of course, .
Terri
Of course i remember you and Forest! Happy to see she is doing fine! That was a great photo too! I like to kiss my ig too, and he got used to it! lol!
By the way i have in my house a pond just like yours.Identical! Do you have wild frogs in it?

Awwww, he looks like he's in heaven. I really can't wait until my Bhruic gets that big.
Bhruic is probably the best thing that's ever happened to me. I'm glad to see that other people care about their igs as much as I care about mine.

They really can make great pets IF we treat them with love and respect.Im still learning how to treat igs . I recognize i made a lot of mistakes but im sure TREX still loves me!lol!
