i wasnt planning on doing this, but was just curious if there are any two species that dont mind being in the same tank together or is that generally a bad idea all together? just curious

THere's a can of worms that's been opened too many times. Many people keep mixed tanks with great results, but if you aren't entirely familiar with the species you plan on mixing, its better to keep to one species per enclosure.
First off, this permits you to keep the optimum environments for that species, instead of compromising here and there, which could stress out either one of the animals involved. Second, the toxins of one species may affect another species in unexpected ways and could result in stress, paralysation or even death. (why do you think so many people complain about the pet stores keeping mixed tanks?)
In other words, better stick to one species per enclosure. Mixed tanks aren't generally a good idea, and unless you have lots of experience with each individual species you plan on using I wouldn't mix.
(This is my opinion, and may or may not reflect the opinions of others on this site)

I think my frog owns a megaphone....
what about dart frogs? i dont know anything about them but are the different color variations considered different species or are they all darts? and can u mix different colored ones in one tank or do they require different environments
Darts are much more demanding, there are the specific requirements, the culturing of fruit flies etc. You should check out the dendroboard.com for more info on them, definitely not a beginner project.
